Women’s lacrosse

The Trinity College women’s lacrosse team defeated previously undefeated Salisbury, 8-7, on May 20 to complete the greatest season in the program’s history, with its first NCAA Division III Championship title. The Bantams set a new College record for wins in a season with 21 this spring against just one loss, and qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the sixth straight season and the eighth time overall with a 9-1 league mark that gave the Bantams the top seed in the league tourney for the third straight time. Trinity downed Bates, 15-4; Hamilton, 9-8, in overtime; and Middlebury, 11-10, on a last-second goal in the NESCAC Tournament to capture its first league crown, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the eighth time and the third year in a row. The Bantams defeated Bridgewater State, 16-1, Buffalo State, 17-6, Colby, 7-5, and Cortland State, 7-5, to advance to the NCAA title game.

Men’s lacrosse

The Trinity College men’s lacrosse team, coached by Michael Higgins, posted an 11-7 record in 2012 and finished second in the NESCAC with a 7-3 conference mark. The Bantams qualified for the NESCAC Championship Tournament for the seventh year and the fifth time in the last six years, and downed Hamilton, 14-8, at home in the quarterfinals before bowing to Bowdoin, 10-8, at Tufts in their second-straight NESCAC Semifinal appearance. Trinity received its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament and defeated Eastern Connecticut, 13-9, at home in its first NCAA game before closing the spring with a 17-8 loss at Tufts in the NCAA Second Round.
