Trinity Bolsters Film Studies

The Trinity College English Department has launched a new film track entitled "Film and Literature" in response to student interest in film studies, the growth of film in contemporary culture, and the established film resources at the College.

Among those resources is Cinestudio, one of the nation's premier non-profit public independent movie theaters. Screenings at the 1930s-style theater are regularly tied in with film courses. Last year, students screened their own films in the theater, an activity that—according to Professor Prakash Younger, co-head of film studies along with Beth Notar, Charles A. Dana Research Professor of Anthropology—is expected to expand into a Trinity student film festival.

Trinity boasts a strong alumni presence in the industry, including television and movie writers and producers. Many cite Cinestudio, film studies, and their Trinity liberal arts education as major influences on their careers.

 

 

Hockey at Rentschler Field

The Trinity College men's and women's ice hockey teams played outdoor doubleheaders against the NESCAC rival Wesleyan University Cardinals at Rentschler Field in East Hartford as part of Whalers Hockey Fest 2011 on Tuesday, February 15. The Bantam women won their ninth straight game over Wesleyan, 5-1, and the men edged the Cardinals, 3-1.
