EDUCATION

D.Phil. in Politics, August 1997, University of Oxford, Lincoln College, Oxford, England.

D.Phil. Thesis: "Conservative Protestant Politics in the United States and Canada: The Mobilization of Evangelical Social Movements Across the Continental Divide, 1960s -1990s."

Abstract
In light of the late-twentieth century resurgence of evangelical politics across North America, especially the rise of the populist Reform Party in western Canada during the 1990s, this thesis employs original research (including content analysis and extensive interviews with activists and MPs) and secondary sources (including national and cross-national survey data) to compare evangelical political mobilization in the U.S. and Canada. It explains similarities and differences through a theoretical framework adapted, with some revisions, from social movement theory—a synthetic approach drawing from the “culturalist,” “rationalist,” and “structuralist” strains of mobilization literature.

Thesis Supervisor: Alan Ware, Worcester College, Oxford.
