Pablo Delano is currently working on a book of photographs about public ritual, celebration, and worship in Trinidad, an island distinguished by its kaleidoscopic rainbow of merging cultures. The evocative images selected for this portfolio capture the essence of Trinidad's intercultural identity. They depict carnival preparations and masquerading, musical performance and instrument making, and the night-time presentation of Ramleela, a reenactment of the story of the Hindu deity Rama. Delano's work celebrates aspects of the two dominant ethnic groups (African and Indian) in that diverse Caribbean nation.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Delano holds an MFA degree from Yale University School of Art. His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the Americas. His book of photographs, Faces of America, was published by the Smithsonian Institution Press in 1992. He teaches photography at Trinity College in Hartford, CT.  He can be reached at pablo.delano@trincoll.edu.
